Aesthetically pleasing design, rather than disability specific “institutional” design
The Abbotsford Housing Project was established in 2013, in collaboration with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and Common Equity Housing Limited in Abbotsford, Victoria.
The Abbotsford Housing Project has six fully accessible self-contained one-bedroom apartments peppered throughout a 59-unit mixed private and social housing development. The Summer Foundation purchased two of the apartments and TAC / Residential Independence Pty Ltd purchased four apartments.
The multi-storey development is located in a prime inner city suburb within 500 metres of a train station, shops and community facilities.
One apartment is 75m2 and the other is 82m2. Smart home technology is a core element of the project allowing tenants to control their own environment and alert staff if they need unplanned or emergency assistance.
