5 minutes with Summer Housing’s Tenancy Support Manager – VIC, Meg Riordan

How long have you been with Summer Housing?

I am new to the team, I came on board in July 2020.

What is your role?

I am the Tenancy Support Manager in Victoria.

What do you love most about your job?

Seeing tenants imagine and pursue a life they once thought was impossible for themselves. It’s really special to see how life changing the right housing opportunity is for someone. I am so proud to be working with such a talented and diverse team of people committed to supporting people with disability to be able to live the way they want to.

What does a typical day look like?

Talking to tenants and support providers. Making sure everyone has the information and support they need to move into their home, but also making sure they have support once they’ve moved in. My goal is to make sure our tenants continue to achieve and set new goals, and ensure their housing continues to not only meet their support needs, but their ongoing aspirations. Moving in isn’t the end of someone’s housing journey.

What is one story/moment in your job that really made you proud?

I feel lucky to be so new in a role and have already experienced some special moments with the people we support. My highlight so far has been reconnecting with a man I worked with years ago at the start of my journey working in the disability sector as a support worker. He will become one of our tenants soon and it feels very serendipitous to reconnect after all this time so we can work together on his new journey.
